Classical Ornament

Architectural Carving

Classical ornament is a type of decorative carving used to enhance buildings and objects. Throughout history, nearly all civilizations incorporated decorative art into their architecture and artifacts. While ornamentation varies across cultures and time periods, the classical motifs of Ancient Rome—rediscovered during the Renaissance—are among the most recognisable. Their enduring appeal likely comes from their use of flowing C- and S-shaped curves, which are naturally pleasing to the eye. Regardless of the era or style, ornamental carving aims to create a harmonious interplay of line and form.
